A few days ago, when I was checking my email, I saw an email from my hosting provider Radix Hosting with subject line “Account Security Update”. My host had sent me an email to notify me of a recent brute force attack on my hosting account. The following was written in the mail:

Dear Ghatozkat (SomeUsefulinfo.com),

We have noticed a major brute force attack on your web hosting account. We are certain that this brute force attempt was blocked soon enough which most probably caused the attack to fail. However, we have taken measurements just to be sure.

For security purposes we have changed your client area password as well as your web hosting password (cPanel, FTP, etc).

Your new password: XXXXXX

No changes were made to your username.

You are allowed to change your password if that new password

 1. Contains at least XX characters
 2. Contains at least one lower case and one upper case letter
 3. Contains at least one digit
 4. Contains at least one symbol such as: X, X, X, X, X, X, etc
 5. Does not match the password you had before we changed it

You can log in to our client area with your new password.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to reply to this message.

Best regards,
Josh Burt

According to Wikipedia:

A brute force attack is a method of defeating a cryptographic scheme by systematically trying a large number of possibilities; for example, a large number of the possible keys in a key space in order to decrypt a message.

The brute force attack on my host was tried by systematically trying a large number of possibilities for my password of my hosting account. Thanks to my host that they prevented it. And it’s good to know that my host implies a mechanism to keep my hosting account secure. And the amazing thing is I am getting all these for exactly 25.2 dollars per year, yeah you read it right, it’s just above 25 dollars per year.

For my money, Radix hosting is giving me 3 GB web space, 30 GB monthly bandwidth, a full fledged cPanel and other services on par with services offered by other big hosts and now after this brute force incident, I know that they also have mechanisms to keep my hosting account secure. This is what you call value for money. Damn, I am happy with Radix Hosting.

All other posts here at SomeUsefulinfo.com prior to this post are actually posts from my previous blog, BeginEarning.com.

I started BeginEarning.com on Jan. 2008 but it had to be closed down because of some really sad circumstances. If you want to know what happened to my previous blog, you can read it from my about page.

Who is SomeUsefulinfo.com for?
In one line, this blog is a must read for people who want to score dollars online by working from home.

So, why making money online?
The answer is simple, because that’s what sells on the online world and that’s what I hold information about to dispense.

What’s the catch?
I run this blog to make money online for myself while teaching you how to make money for yourself.

That’s it for the first post. Keep coming back for more.

I hope everyone enjoys my blog.
Cheers, Ghatozkat.

I live in the beautiful Himalayan country, Nepal. Sounds really good from nature point of view, doesn’t it? But to sustain as a blogger and to make money online if you are from Nepal is hard. Bloggers and folks from Nepal (and other PayPal “Send Only” countries) who are looking to make money online have to face some really unnecessary challenges that bloggers from other countries don’t even have to bother about.

Nepal is categorized by PayPal as a “Send Only” country. That means, I can only send funds from my PayPal account and not receive any money into my account. For me, having such an account is as bad as not having an account with PayPal. If you want to make money online, you would want to have access to a PayPal account. A “Send Only” PayPal account does not allow you to accept payments from online merchants that pay only through PayPal. Although most of the Ad networks and other programs pay by check, some don’t. Some really nice programs like MySearchFunds, PayPerPost, Smorty, Money4Banners still pay only through PayPal (at the time of writing this post). And even if you are able to find programs that pay though other mediums, there’re several disadvantages:

For a lot of programs out there, the minimum payout for cashing out by check is usually higher than through PayPal. Consider Bidvertiser: To receive payments through PayPal, a publisher needs to have only $10 in his account, which is $50 for publishers receiving payments through check. That means one needs to wait longer to receive his hard earned money.

Whenever you receive checks, your bank charges you some fees, which implies, LOSS.

This point matters if you are a blogger. Direct Advertisers almost always want to pay with PayPal and replying their email saying that you don’t have a PayPal account that can receive funds means loosing an advertiser (and money) unless the advertiser happens to be a really nice person who is willing to send you a check or pay you through other mediums like MoneyBookers and AlertPay. 99% of the times, the advertiser will simply leave you and find someone else who accepts payments through PayPal. If I was an advertiser, I would have done the same. Who wants to go through the hassles of sending a check?

You can find the countries designated by PayPal as “Send Only” here.

A friend suggested to me that joining good programs even if they pay only through PayPal and promoting the program to get referrals is sometimes a good idea because it’s likely that someday the program would add other payment processors or either PayPal would remove the “Send Only” label from my country. The former is more likely to happen than the latter. His point was : not joining a program when it’s new would make you loose referrals. Initially, I thought it’s not a good idea, but later decided to give this idea a try. I have joined one of the programs that pays only through PayPal (or wire transfer if you are from U.K) and started promoting it. The program is Home Pages Friends, a Paid To Search program. I have gambled upon Home Pages Friends and I am hoping it will one day add some more payment processors.

Don’t you think it’s time that these programs that pay only through PayPal rethink and start adding other payment processors too so that they can have people from all over the world join them and hence they can have a larger user base?

Update: More bad news to fellows whose countries are categorized by PayPal as “Send Only”. Gomez Peer and MyLot have stopped paying through MoneyBookers, you now need to have an account with PayPal to receive your earnings. These two were my top earning sources, sadly, I would have to leave them both now.

I got banned from Google AdSense back in November 2007. I was banned probably because I was hosting my site at a free hosting service Geocities and although I used to generate some amount of traffic from ads on local newspaper and distributing flyers, I could never generate a huge traffic and majority of my AdSense clicks came from a small locality in my country Nepal and the sad thing is that all ISPs in Nepal use a proxy server. Here’s my old site at http://www.geocities.com/onjochi which got me banned from Google Adsense.

In fact, there are a lot of factors that can get you banned from Google Adsense. Even if you think you have done everything right, sometimes, if you don’t know how to play the game, you will get banned. If you are earning something out of Google Adsense, however small it might be, and you live in constant fear everyday that when you wake up the other day, you will get that "Google Adsense Account Disabled" email, I am going to tell you something from my experience. The following is not a complete list of things to follow to not get yourself banned from Google Adsense, it’s completely based on my personal experience.

1) Do not log into your Google Adsense account from a public computer for if someone has clicked a Google Adsense ad on your site from that PC, you will get banned.

2) Read the TOS carefully and keep up to date with the changes.

3) Don’t distribute flyers about your website only in a particular area and never in an area near you home. I am telling this from my personal experience because if you are a small publisher and Google finds out that majority of your clicks are coming from a certain locality then Big G is going to ban you. The same applies with advertising in a local newspaper if you are a small publisher.

4) If you are earning a living online and is dependent on it, install something like Asrep ASAP. Asrep is a click monitoring program that can find out click frauds and has the capability of sending you emails whenever ads on your site get continuously clicked for more than certain times on a day. And whenever you see any click fraud activity on your site tracked by this program, write an email to Google to tell them about it.

5) And never make a mistake of clicking on your own Ad. If you cannot make people click on your ads, then you probably have bad content that is not useful to anyone else other than you, so try new things, and if you yet don’t succeed, leave it and stop wasting your time maintaining you website or blog or whatever you call it and go on do something else on the Internet that can fetch you money. There are a hell lot of other things that you can do on the Internet to make money other than earning from PPC Ad networks like Google Adsense. Here is a list of making money online programs that you might want to take a look at.

I regretted a lot after Google banned me. But I have not lost hope either. When I started with my old site, I knew nothing about the online world and different money making opportunities that exist over the Internet. By the time Google banned me, I was starting to get an idea. If Google hadn’t banned me, I would have been generating a lot more revenue from this blog. Although, I have put PPC ads from other companies on my blog here, I believe, I am earning far less than the revenue the same clicks would have generated had I been using Google Adsense Ads. I still believe Google Adsense is the easiest monetization method open to almost everyone right now. If you do not learn how to make money with Adsense, you’ll find the other methods to be even more difficult. And when you get banned by Google, it’s a life ban. Hence, don’t commit any mistake and take no chances, follow the Google Adsense TOS with enough faith as you follow your religion if you want to make money online. Remember, Google is not just Google, it’s Lord Google.

Here’s a copy of the email that Google sent me after it banned me:

Hello XXXXXX,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks and/or impressions
have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s). Please understand that
this was a necessary step to protect the interests of AdWords
advertisers.

As you may know, a publisher’s site may not have invalid clicks or
impressions on any ad(s), including but not limited to clicks and/or
impressions generated by:

Listed below are some common terms used in “making money online” field:-

GPT – Get Paid To

GPT actually does not represent any particular kind of action for which you can earn money, but it simple means “Get Paid To”.

PTC – Get Paid To Click

PTC programs are programs which pay you for clicking and viewing advertisements. There are a lot of PTC programs out there. Bear one thing in mind, majority of these programs are scams.

PTR – Get Paid To Read

PTR programs will send you emails and they show ads on those emails or provide a link to ads elsewhere.

PTS – Get Paid To Sign Up

PTS programs pay you when you sign up with other companies that these PTS programs have listed in their website. You are generally required to send PTS programs confirmation emails that you receive after signing up with other companies and you get paid.

PTP – Get Paid To Promote

PTP programs let you earn money when you advertise their links. The more people open your link, the more you earn.

Get Paid To Post

Paid To Post generally means to write sponsored posts on one’s blog for money. But Paid To Post also refer to posting on forums that pay you for posting.

Get Paid To Socialize

Very much like Hi5 and MySpace, these programs pay you to socialize. The more you socialize, the more you earn.

Get Paid To Sell/Share Pictures

If you own a nice digi-cam and can take some good pictures, then you can upload your pictures, and when people view or download your pictures, you earn money.

Get Paid To Search

Like Google search or Yahoo search, Paid to search programs pay you for searching. Very simple, ain’t it?

Get Paid To Take Surveys

Like real life surveys, online surveys are conducted by asking questions to you online. You earn for the surveys you complete. Online surveys can be a very good source of income if you live in countries like USA, UK, Canada.

Get Paid To Complete Offers

Some big companies are paying a lot of money to have users like you try their products and services for free. Paid to complete offers programs pass that money on to you. Simply complete free offers and get paid.

Get Paid To Use Software

These programs pay you when you use their software. In many cases, the software is a toolbar on which the company that pays you shows ads to you. This way, they earn money from advertisers and distribute a small portion, sometimes big too, to you as well.

PPC Ad Networks

PPC stands from Pay Per Click. You can join PPC companies, place ads on your website and every time a visitor clicks on those ads, you earn money.

CPM Ad Networks

CPM stand for Cost Per 1000 impressions. M is the Roman numeral for 1000. CPM Ad companies place ads on your website and they pay you per thousand impressions that you generate on your website. Unlike PPC ads, CPM ads need not be clicked to earn money.

Freelancing

Wikipedia defines Freelancer as “A freelancer or freelance worker is a person who pursues a profession without a long-term commitment to any one employer”. Freelancing is the action of the freelancer. There are websites that act as a bridge between employers and the freelancer for short term projects. These sites generally let freelancers bid on projects. Over the recent years, freelancing online have been on the rise because it lets people do what they know and what they want to. Employers also benefit because they get to select the right person from a lot of choices and as it generally involves bidding, it’s the most cost effective way for them to get the job done.

Affiliate Marketing

Wikipedia defines Affiliate Marketing as “Affiliate marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts”. Under this system, you need to influence buyers to buy products or to take certain actions as required, and when a product is bought using your affiliate links or the required action is taken, you get a certain commission.

This list of making money online programs contains the links to different programs that I have talked about above. I recommend you to join as many programs as you can based on how much time you can put in. Joining just a few is not going to fetch a lot of money for you unless you have a very big referral base. Hence, I suggest you to join as many programs as you can, so that you can have a nice flow of cash.

HAPPY EARNINGS !

If you are a beginner, chances are, when you come across a money making program, you would get confused with the process that the program uses to sign you up and there after. In this guide I have tried to explain the general sign up process and other nitty-gritty stuffs that almost all the money making programs out there have.

The picture below is a representation of the flow of what you need to do while registering with money making programs and there after. The picture is borrowed from Cutieweii’s blog and the explanation is mine.

Sign-up
Before you can start making money with an online program, you would almost always need to sign up with the program. Look around the homepage of the company and search for a button or link named ‘SIGN UP’, ‘JOIN HERE’ or ‘REGISTER’. Click it and you will reach the registration form.

Fill in Registration Form
Registration forms are pretty easy to fill up and you should be able to fill them up with ease. During the registration process, companies will seek for your personal data along with your online payment processor id or the address to send you checks to or the bank account to do swift transfers to. Different companies use different online payment processors to pay you like PayPal, MoneyBookers, E-Gold or AlertPay. Some still use check to pay you but such companies are not in abundance and checks take time to process. Hence, it’s always better to join all 4 online payment processors that I mentioned earlier before starting your online money making venture.

Some basic rules to follow when signing up for a new account with making money online programs are:

Read the TOS of the company if you are eager to find out what you can legally do and what’s illegal.

Go through the FAQ section. FAQ section will make a lot of things clear and you can grasp how a particular company works and what are you required to do to earn money from that company.

Make sure you are over the age limit required by the company.

This rule is very strict, DO NOT TRY TO OPEN MORE THAN ONE ACCOUNT WITH A COMPANY HOPING TO MAKE MORE MONEY. These companies are pretty sophisticated and will easily find out if you are fooling them and you will ultimately get banned. So, play it safe!

Do not use the same password for all earning programs you join. This is to avoid the loss of your account and earnings if someone were to hack one of your accounts, then he/she will have your password for the rest as well.

Confirm Email
After completing your new account registration, almost every program will send you a confirmation email to verify the existence of your email address and that it belongs to you. So you will need to access your email account and click on the link sent to you to verify. If a company promises a confirmation email and you do not receive it in your Inbox, check your bulk or spam or junk email folder. If it’s not there too, the company is taking time, wait a few more minutes before it arrives.

Logging In
Look around the webpage after you click the confirmation link and if it takes you to the company’s page, search for a button or link named ‘LOGIN’ or ‘MEMBERS’, click it and a login page will come up. Login with your username and password. If you forgot your password, just click on ‘forgot password’, and your account details will be sent to your email address.

Do What It Takes To Earn
Different programs require you to do different things to make money. They also have rules in place, check the rules before starting with the program so that you don’t get banned. If you need help, look for a link named “Help” in that company’s home page. Some just have FAQs page.

Reach Minimum Payout
All companies transfer money to your online processing system account or pay you by check or swift transfer only after your earnings exceed a minimum payout level. Some companies don’t have a minimum payout level at all, and pay you even if you have just 1 cent in your account, others do have a minimum payout level. Minimum payout level varies according to companies.

Cashout
Look for “REQUEST PAYOUT” or “CASH OUT” link or button when you have reached the minimum payout level and ensure that the payment processor ID that you provided to the site is correct before requesting a payout. Some programs pay you automatically after you reach the minimum payout.

Check Your Online Payment Processor
Login to your online payment processing account and check if a program has indeed paid you.

If you are a beginner, this post must have helped you, if not, leave a comment. I will try my best to reply you fast.

Happy Earnings!

Fine. But you must be wondering “how am I going to receive my money?”. “Well, maybe, I’ll get a check, ummm, or may be I’ll get money by bank transfer”. The thing is some companies do pay you using checks or bank wire but there are a lot that don’t use checks or bank wire. And in that case, you will get paid into an online payment processor.

So what actually are online payment processors?

You must know that via the Internet a lot of people buy or sell products and services. And where there’s buying or selling, there’s money involved. That’s why Online Payment Processors have been created. Think online payment processors as your virtual wallet, internet wallet in other words. So the thing is if you want to make money online, you need to have internet wallet/s where you can keep your money. Different companies might opt to pay you using different online payment processors, so it’s best to sign up with all 4 Internet payment processors listed below.

1. PayPal
It is literally the fastest, most affordable and convenient online payment service for any kind of business with more than 100 million accounts in 190 countries and regions. You are able to add funds from your bank account to your PayPal account, and withdraw funds from your PayPal account to your bank account, simply and quickly. A lot of making money online programs on the Internet use this Secure Online Payment Processor to pay.

But for a lot of countries, PayPal is send only, that means you will be able to send money using PayPal, but you won’t be able to receive money using it. That means if you live in a country for which PayPal is send only, you wont be able to receive your earnings. So don’t join programs that pay you via PayPal if you live in a PayPal send only country.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE LIST OF COUNTRIES APPROVED BY PAYPAL

CLICK HERE TO GET A PAYPAL ACCOUNT

2. E-gold
It is another Fast Electronic Payment System that is available internationally and of course FREE to join. E-gold is accounted by weight of metal (Gold), not national currency units. Many online programs use E-gold as one of their Secure Payment Processors. So, it is suggested to open an account. It’s FREE and EASY.

CLICK HERE TO GET AN E-GOLD ACCOUNT

3. Moneybookers
It enables any business or consumer with an e-mail address to securely and cost-effectively send and receive payments online. You are welcome to join this Global Internet Payment Solution from every nation of the earth, absolutely FREE. Besides, you are able to upload or withdraw funds through different methods such as Bank Transfer or Credit Cards.

CLICK HERE TO GET A MONEYBOOKERS ACCOUNT

4. Alertpay
It enables any business or consumer with an e-mail address to securely and cost-effectively send and receive payments online. Its services are very much similar to MoneyBookers.

CLICK HERE TO GET AN ALERTPAY ACCOUNT

So there were the 4 most popular online payment processors. I hope you joined them all. Now, keep your passwords safe, you will need them in the future.

HAPPY EARNINGS !
