A blog is a website on which the owner posts entries. An entry can be anything – plain text, pictures, videos etc. Usually the entries are available to the readers in a reverse chronological order, i.e. the latest posts first. Most blogs are written by a single person on a single topic. However this is not always true and some bloggers maintain a single blog for a wide range of topics. Blogs are usually presented in a way so that readers find it easy to navigate and the following features are incorporated into almost every blog for this sake:
a) Categories within a blog:
A blog’s postings are split into many categories and usually bloggers present these categories to their audiences (usually found on the sidepanel) and the users can navigate to any category within a blog according to what they like. A single category has a collection of blog posts related to that category.
b) Archives:
I told you earlier that usually blog entries are available to the readers in a reverse chronological order, i.e. the latest posts first. When I first write a post, it appears at the top of my front page but as I add more posts to my blog, the post slides down and finally disappears from my front page. After that, it’s retrievable from the Archives. Archives are collection of posts within a blog (by date).
c) Comments:
Comments add life to a blog. Almost all blogs let you add comments. If you are a blogger, comments allow you to know what your readers think about your each posts. If you are simply a reader, comments are ways to tell the blogger what you think about their posts. Some bloggers however don’t allow comments which I think is a bad bad idea.
d) RSS
For this post I will keep it simple. RSS lets readers know when a blog that they have subscribed to gets updated so that they don’t have to go to the blog to find out if the content has updated or not. I will explain more about RSS in my coming posts.

I already know what a blog is, but I read this post because I found it interesting anyway – for me, a blog is about happily writing for the sake of writing, and allowing emotions and passion let fly.
