What Is Google Authorship?

Posted on : 8 May 2013

Google Authorship is a way for you to link your published content on the web. It allows you to create a profile which is more likely to be seen on searches. What this does is help establish your credibility and get your content found on Google searches. It also protects your content to an extent from being plagiarized. Google will recognize you as being the original author of your content and give you credit for it.

I encountered one problem that awed me yesterday. In one of my blogs, I installed a social media posting plugin, SNAP and when I went to the WordPress post editor, SNAP had inserted a bunch of new custom fields in every post. Till that, it was fine. Then I saw, some of my old custom fields were no more listed in the WordPress post editor. So, if I wanted to add/change the value for a custom field for a new/old WordPress post, I was simply not able to do that. Read the rest of this entry »

When people hire someone to build a website, most are only thinking about what the website will look like and what types of pages the site will include. This is especially true of websites that are designed to promote offline businesses. In creating a sleek looking website with eye-grabbing graphics, only 1 element of a successful website is being accounted for. The look of the website will draw users in, but they must first arrive at that website in order for that to happen. That’s when code and optimization come into play. If the look of the website were the website’s skin, then the code and optimization represent the skeleton and organs. If they are not healthy, the site won’t be either. In order to attract the search engines, your website’s insides must be in good shape.

I tried to upgrade WordPress plugins for my blogs hosted at ByetHost but couldn’t do so. SomeUsefulInfo.com is hosted on a paid hosting server of Radix Hosting. However, I host some of my other blogs at ByetHost. When I tried to upgrade the WP plugins, it asked for my FTP username and Password. I put in the correct username and password, and then it said: “Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory.” So I started googling and found out this solution.

Yesterday, after I edited some of the theme files of my WordPress blog and uploaded them to my host, although my blog opened fine in Mozilla Firefox, I met with a surprise when I opened my blog in Internet Explorer. My blog was rendered completely blank. It certainly appeared to have happened due to some incompatibility issues with IE.

If you are trying to use a WP plugin that guesses your visitor’s country from his IP address like Ozh’s IP to Nation or WP-IP2Nation-Installer plugin along with the WP Super Cache plugin and you are yet to achieve success serving dynamic content, this blog post is for you.

WP Super Cache caches pages inside the WordPress loop on a page wise basis. So, as far as I know, you cannot prevent caching of only a certain portion of a page. This feature basically prevents you from serving dynamic content inside your blog’s pages based on your visitor’s IP address.

If you are an Affiliate Marketer using a WordPress blog and you rely on search engine traffic for your leads and sales, here’s a tweak that will boost your leads and sales.

Mostly, affiliate programs are tied to countries, that is, leads from designated countries fetch you money and others strictly don’t, which means there’s no point showing your banners or links from affiliate programs tied to certain countries to all your visitors. Opting to show banners from affiliate programs only to the right visitors that carry the potential to fetch you money is a better idea.

In this post, I am gonna talk about a simple keyword optimization technique for WordPress blogs. This piece of blog advice that I am giving away is easy to implement and is an onsite blog optimization technique. Let’s start off with the basics. If you have a blog and you want people to get to your blog from search engines and you want to make some cash online from your traffic, you gotta devise a strategy to make it happen. Although, offsite optimization plays a bigger role while trying to rank your blog better in search engines like Google, a combination of onsite and offsite optimization techniques will help you rank even better.

I optimize my category pages (the pages that show excerpts of all the posts in the category) for certain keywords and I think all bloggers should do the same. Now to optimize the category pages for certain keywords, adding descriptions at the top of the category pages that contain relevant keywords would do some help. The description will always stay on top of the category page and have the keywords that you are targeting and thus would help in SEO. In this post I’ll tell you how to add descriptions at the top of category pages in WordPress.

keywords Here’s another blog advice for you. If you are using All In One SEO pack plugin and are not able to add meta-keywords to category pages in WordPress, I am gonna teach you how to do that in this post. Some of you might argue that meta-keywords are obsolete things. Yes, it is said Google does not give a damn to them but we know Yahoo still uses meta-keywords for sure. Hence, if you want to rank better in Yahoo, you should consider adding meta-keywords to all the pages that you want to show up in Yahoo’s search results. Category Pages are very important pages from SEO point of view, so you need to make them perfectly search engine optimized and that’s exactly what we are going to learn in this post.

wordpress WordPress 2.7 released 2 days back but I didn’t want to blog about it as soon as it was out because I wanted to try it out for myself before writing a post about it. I had 27 plugins installed on WordPress 2.6.5 and hence I was expecting some of them to break and was prepared to even revert back to the older version, but everything went well and all plugins are working fine now. Some of you must be thinking 27 is a big number for the number of plugins, yeah it is, but I needed all of them to make my blog work my way :-) .

duplicate Shocked?? Yeah, I was too when a friend of mine, Bishal Adhikary told me about this WP bug. Here’s the scenario. If you are using /%category%/%postname%/ permalink structure at your WP blog, and let’s say the URL of one of your posts is yourdomainname/some-category-name/post-name. Now, the problem with using /%category%/%postname%/ permalink structure is that if you replace the category name in the real URL of your post (not the one given above) with something else (any word you can imagine), it still takes you to the exact same post without any redirections. That means if you are using /%category%/%postname%/ permalink at your blog and if you haven’t done anything to get rid of the scenario I explained to you earlier, there’s bad news for you, YOU HAVE GOT INFINTE DUPLICATE CONTENT AT YOUR BLOG.

subcategories The title of this blog post is really long, ain’t it? But it needed to be that long to explain the scenario correctly. :-) I use /%category%/%postname%/ permalink for my blog posts. At the same time, I have gotten rid of the default category base “category” by using the Top Level Categories plugin. What Top Level Categories plugin does is, it makes the category page URLs look like your-domain-name/category-name instead of the default your-domain-name/category/category-name, the latter has an extra “category” in the URL. I did this to create a perfect directory silo structure at my blog. I will talk in detail about siloing in my coming posts. A directory silo structure requires that each directory in the URL displays a valid page. I had to get rid of the default category base using the Top Level Categories plugin because SomeUsefulinfo.com/category/ would not return a valid page and give me a 404 error message in WordPress. That’s understandable because /category would itself mean nothing without the actual category-name added to the URL after “/category”, i.e SomeUsefulinfo.com/category/category-name (this one was working fine) and also who wants to add an extra “/category” in the category page URLs just to make the URL long?

SEO You must have gotten the gist of what I am trying to say from the title of this post itself. And the title is exactly what I want to say : “Put niche categories of your blog in your blog header within h1 tags”. By niche categories of your blog, I mean the categories of your blog that belong to the theme of your blog. This helps to increase your search engine rankings.

Check out my sidepanel and you will see a list of blog categories. Now among them, at the time of writing this post, I have put the following in my blog header:

SOME USEFUL INFO ON MAKING MONEY ONLINE, BLOGGING TIPS, GETTING TRAFFIC, SEO, PAYMENT PROOFS, USEFUL TOOLS, SCAM LIST, WORLDWIDE FREEBIES, MORE….

What is a blog?

Posted on : 8 Feb 2008

What is a blog? A blog is a website on which the owner posts entries. An entry can be anything – plain text, pictures, videos etc. Usually the entries are available to the readers in a reverse chronological order, i.e. the latest posts first. Most blogs are written by a single person on a single topic. However this is not always true and some bloggers maintain a single blog for a wide range of topics. Blogs are usually presented in a way so that readers find it easy to navigate and the following features are incorporated into almost every blog for this sake:
